National Permaculture Day - 6th May 2012
A turn out of over 60 wonderful hard working people over the day made for a very successful Permablitz by the Ballarat Permaculture Guild and Friends of Royal Park.
Along with the tasty lunch and afternoon tea, three major projects were completed: The planting of a food forest - fruit trees and companion plants, the clean up of the front garden and the establishment of a herb garden and path, and the clean up and building of paths in and around the existing garden plots.

^ Paul Ryle had sourced heritage apple trees, and these, plus other donated nut trees and other fruit trees, were planted into well mulched circle beds, along with companion plants.
Costa visits Royal Park Buninyong
On Saturday 10 December 2011, the Backyard Bounty project celebrated the end of the project and all their achievements!
Guest of honour was Costa Georgiadis who helped launch the project at the start of the year! You may have seen Costa on TV: SBS "Costa's Garden Odyssey" and on the ABC "Gardening Australia" in 2012.
Royal Park Buninyong was the venue and FoRP and the Buninyong Community Garden were very happy to be a part of it and host the festivities

With the generous help of our sponsors, the Friends of Royal Park, in particular Phil Allen and Andrea Mason have achieved a long held goal of adding solar energy to the club house in Warrenheip street.
Sustainable Local Warming!
Friends of Royal Park received $5,000 towards heating and hot water installation and were among thirty two community organisations and not for profit groups to share in funding thanks to the City of Ballarat's Community Impact Grants Program.
As the number of user groups and volunteers grows, so does our need to consider the ongoing comfort of the management committee, meeting participants, workshop participants, community members and other users as they provide ongoing management of the facilities, support the members of the sporting and gardening groups and undertake community engagement activities.
Currently the building has no heating or hot water and our capacity to use and attract users during the colder months is greatly reduced. Demonstrating sustainable choices is key to our aims and the choice of gas heating and instantaneous hot water is an important part of that.
If you're thinking about planting - think about using Greensmart Pots and fill them with Grow Better Organic Potting Mix!
Funds raised will help us continue to maintain and improve our facilities.
See us at the Ballarat Fresh Produce Market, Bridge Mall, 1st Saturday of the month, phone Vicki, 0458 903 043.
If you want something bigger, why not rent a plot in the Buninyong Community Garden.
